An initiative of the Technopole Maritime du Québec, the Innovation Portal was created to raise the profile of the expertise available in the vast niche of excellence in marine science and technology based in Québec’s maritime regions.

The strategic goal of the Innovation Portal is to establish a strong regional organization for the development of technological innovations and their transfer from the scientific laboratory to industry.

Through its strong national and international exposure, this directory is an invaluable aid to business development, prospecting and investment in the region. The aim of the Portal is to bring together the scientific and industrial communities while promoting and actualizing the value of innovations and intellectual property developed in research centres, particularly since many foreign companies rely on innovation to foster market growth and development.

The Innovation Portal’s goals are also in line with several areas of strategic development for many regions of the world. For example, marine transportation is making a comeback and is responsive to environmental concerns; marine biotechnology is attracting more and more interest in the potential uses of marine organisms, particularly for health products; and the field of oceanography is the focus of many developments, especially concerning climate change. Canada holds an enviable position in these fields and we believe that the Innovation Portal is an important link in the chain.
